ERNST MAYER (1904-2004)  Born on 5 july 1904, kempton, Germany. The Harvard University evolutionary biologost who has been called " The Darwin of 20th century" . He joined Harvard's Faculty of arts and science in 1953 and retierd in 1975, assuming the title of Alexander Agassize Professer of zoology Emeritus. Throughout his nearly 80- year career, his research spanned ornithology, taxonomy, zoogegraphy, evolution, systematics, and the history and philosophy of biology. He almost single-handedly made the orgine of species diversity. He also poineered the curently accepted definition of a biological species.
